SOS : coups de soleil que faire, quels risques ?
Quand le soleil revient, on sait qu’il est temps de sortir la crème solaire, les lunettes de soleil et de faire attention à son exposition. Mais malgré les précautions ou quand l’envie de bronzer rapidement est forte, on peut attraper des coups de soleil ! Que risque-t-on vraiment ? Quelles sont les conséquences d’un coup de soleil pour votre peau et votre santé ?

Qu’est-ce qu’un coup de soleil ?
Lors d’un coup de soleil la peau rougit, il y a parfois des cloques qui apparaissent, l’intensité d’un coup de soleil peut varier. Généralement on distingue 3 types :
- Brûlure du premier degré : rougeur de la peau, pas de cloques, douleur et sensation de brûlures;
- Brûlure superficielle (deuxième degré) : entraîne l’apparition de cloques (fièvre et maux de tête possibles);
- Brûlure profonde (deuxième degré) : brûlure grave avec des cloques pouvant laisser des cicatrices (fièvre et maux de tête probables).
Processus biologique
Le terme brûlure n’est pas tout à fait exacte pour expliquer la réalité biologique d’un coup de soleil. Il existe 3 types d’UV (UVA, UVB et UVC), ce sont les UVB qui sont responsables des coups de soleil. Les UVB détériorent les microARN présents dans les cellules de la peau, qui les rejettent ensuite dans le milieu extracellulaire. Ce processus provoque une réaction en chaîne et une réponse inflammatoire. On parle donc couramment de brûlures mais le terme approprié est inflammation.
C’est l’organisme lui-même qui provoque l’inflammation mais ce mécanisme serait nécessaire et salvateur, au moins sur le court terme, car cela pourrait nettoyer les cellules présentant des dommages génétiques et donc éviter qu’elles ne deviennent cancéreuses. Cependant, il faut noter que les dommages répétés (coups de soleil répétés) provoquent des altérations qui se cumulent et augmentent le risque de développer un cancer de la peau.
Lors d’un coup de soleil, l’apparition de la rougeur ou érythème a lieu 3 à 5h après l’exposition au soleil. Puis la douleur et la sensation de brûlure apparaissent. Cette 1ère phase dure généralement entre 2 et 3 jours. Lors de la 2ème phase la rougeur s’estompe et la peau commence à se dessécher et desquamer (peler).

Que faire en cas de coups de soleil ?
En cas de coups de soleil sévères (cloques – fièvre) et coups de soleil chez l’enfant il peut être nécessaire de consulter un médecin.
Pour soulager la douleurdes coups de soleil
Pour calmer la douleur ou la sensation de brûlure, il est possible d’appliquer des compresses froides ou un linge humidifié à l’eau froide ou de se plonger dans un bain d’eau froide ou prendre une douche froide. L’eau froide permet de refroidir la peau à l’endroit du coup de soleil et va exercer un effet anti-douleur et anti-inflammatoire naturel.
NB : il ne faut pas utiliser d’eau glacée donc pas d’application de poches de glace ou glaçons car la différence de température est trop importante et pourrait blesser la peau ainsi que les nerfs.
En cas de fièvre ou douleurs intenses il est possible de prendre des anti-inflammatoires.
Pour hydrater la peau
Les coups de soleil déshydratent la peau et l’assèchent il est donc conseillé d’appliquer une crème qui va permettre de réhydrater la peau. Les pharmaciens pourront conseiller la marque la plus adéquate en fonction de la gravité du coup de soleil.
En remède « naturel » l’utilisation de gel d’aloe Vera (aloès) permet d’hydrater la peau et a un effet cicatrisant.
Pour éviter la déshydratation
Les coups de soleil ne déshydratent pas que la peau, la déshydration est générale. Il est donc important de boire beaucoup, au moins 1,5L, en cas de coups de soleil. Si un enfant en bas âge prend un coup de soleil, il faut être très vigilant et bien veiller à son hydratation. Pensez à vérifier la qualité de l’eau qui vous entoure grâce à l’application Meersens.
Pour éviter une aggravation
En cas d’apparition de cloques ou croûtes il ne faut surtout pas les percer ou les gratter pour éviter une infection.
Il faut éviter les cosmétiques, parfums et médicaments qui peuvent provoquer une réaction/allergie sur une peau déjà endommagée. Il faut bien sûr éviter de ré-exposer la peau endommagée au soleil.
Les coups de soleil : quels risques pour la santé ?
Pour les enfants
Les enfants sont plus à risque du fait de leur peau très sensible. Chez l’enfant les coups de soleil ne sont pas anodins, c’est leur capital soleil qui est en jeu. Attraper des coups de soleil pendant l’enfance peut à long terme favoriser le développement d’un cancer de la peau (notamment mélanome). D’après des études les personnes ayant eu plusieurs coups de soleil durant leur enfance sont plus à risque de développer un mélanome par rapport à ceux n’ayant pas eu de coups de soleil durant leur enfance (entre 5 ans et 15 ans).
Chez les enfants en bas âge il faut rester très vigilant, ils ne doivent pas être exposés au soleil avant, au moins, leur 2 ans.
Pour les femmes enceintes
Une exposition au soleil durant la grossesse ne présente pas de risques pour le fœtus mais le fœtus peut souffrir des coups de chaleur ou de la déshydration de la mère donc l’exposition au soleil doit être raisonnée et rester hydraté est important. De plus, l’exposition au soleil peut accentuer le masque de grossesse qui est une hyperpigmentation de la peau apparaissant généralement entre le 4ème et 6ème mois et s’expliquant par un taux élevé d’hormones. Le soleil est aussi responsable de l’assèchement de la peau qui peut entraîner la survenue de varices et vergetures.
Pour les personnes allergiques
Les allergies au soleil sont totalement différentes des coups de soleil. Les allergies au soleil peuvent se manifester par des petits boutons qui démangent. Les allergies peuvent également résulter d’une photosensibilisation avec des réactions plus ou moins fortes de prurit, gonflement et/ou rougeur. Un traitement est nécessaire ainsi qu’un évitement du soleil.
Pour les sportifs
Les activités sportives extérieures se pratiquent généralement dans les créneaux horaires (11h à 18h) où l’exposition aux rayons solaires est la plus forte. Les activités sportives qui exposent le plus au soleil sont tous les sports d’eau, les sports de plein air mais aussi le jogging, le vélo, la randonnée et l’escalade en montagne…
Les risques d’une exposition solaire, lors de la pratique d’un sport, sont les coups de soleil mais aussi l’augmentation de la température corporelle. L’élévation brutale de la température corporelle peut provoquer une hyperthermie d’effort et conduire à un arrêt cardiaque dans les cas les plus extrêmes.
La prévention reste la meilleure solution pour éviter les coups de soleil surtout pour les personnes ayant un phototype de peau I, II ou III qui sont plus sujettes au coup de soleil. La prévention consiste à mettre de la crème solaire et des lunettes de soleil mais aussi à s’exposer au soleil modérément.
