Si vous consommez des produits contaminés par des norovirus vous risquez des troubles gastro-intestinaux et des intoxications alimentaires avec les symptômes des gastroentérites c’est-à-dire l’apparition brutale de vomissements, nausées et/ou diarrhées parfois associés à des crampes abdominales, fièvre modérée, frissons, courbatures et maux de tête. Les symptômes débutent généralement moins de 24h après l’ingestion d’un aliment contaminé mais la période d’incubation peut être étendue à 2 jours.
Ces virus résistent très bien au conditions extérieures, ils se transmettent donc très facilement par contact direct ou indirect et peuvent être à l’origine d’épidémie.

Le norovirus est une des causes les plus fréquentes de gastro-entérite virale et d’intoxication alimentaire. Ce virus qui est éliminé par les selles et les vomissures est hautement contagieux.
Les virus sont très différents des bactéries et des parasites dont certains provoquent des infections similaires à celles causées par les norovirus. Ces derniers ne savent pas se développer en dehors du corps humain, par contre, les norovirus qui se retrouvent ensuite dans l’environnement y sont très résistants.
La transmission par voie féco-orale est la plus importante. Elle est souvent directe, de personne à personne, ou indirecte, par ingestion d’aliments ou d’eau contaminés ou par contact avec un environnement contaminé.
Consommer des produits contaminés comme les fruits de mer peut avoir des conséquences graves pour les individus vulnérables comme les femmes enceintes, les personnes immunodéprimées, les enfants et les personnes âgées.
⚠️ En cas de contamination, d’intoxication alimentaire et d’aggravation des symptômes il est important d’aller consulter un médecin. Il est aussi important d’éviter la déshydratation, il faut boire au moins 1,5L d’eau riche en sodium, ou du bouillon de légumes (pour compenser la perte d’électrolytes). Pour éviter de contaminer d’autres personnes, il faut bien se laver les mains et si possible ne pas préparer le repas pour d’autres.
Quelle est la cause d’une telle contamination et intoxication ?
Les huîtres auraient été contaminées par les norovirus à cause de l’épidémie de gastro-entérites (norovirus présents dans les fèces et rejets des malades), la cause est donc humaine. Les rejets côtiers auraient été pollués – difficulté des stations d’épurations d’éliminer la contamination – ce qui auraient par la même occasion, contaminés les huîtres.

👉 Consulter son médecin traitant (si les symptômes persistent),
👉 Être particulièrement attentif à l’hygiène des mains,
👉 Éviter de préparer les repas le temps de la maladie,
